My Deadcember

Obviously I won't be "entering" Deadcember17 as I'm judging it; even by the standards of the sneakiest greenskin, that would seem a little underhand. And anyway, orctober is over.

As I'm sure is quite a widespread issue, I find myself in need of a liche. This fellow will be what I attempt to paint in around the slightly overambitious list of homemade books and journals I've planned for various nearest and dearest. He's a Chaz Elliot sculpt for Rl Partha Europe, 5028 Undead Lord with Sword and he's pretty tall - that's a 25mm base he's on!

That's him in his "before" state, as per the guidelines in a previous post. Based, and undercoated counts as "before" in my book, so unless you want to show off a particularly neat bit of conversion work, feel free to do the same.

In other news, I was nerdily chuffed to be voted as winner of the Golden Gobbo 2017 by the lovely people on the Oldhammer Forum (see link on the right). If you're interested in oldschool miniatures and earlier edition GW rulesets, you really should be a member. I was surprised to win against a set of very strong entries; maybe my choice of model with its harking back to the Heroes for Wargames era swung it for me? My favourite was actually the joint runner up "Beli the Dwarf" and he and the other entries can be seen over at Geoff / Fimm McCool / Oakbound Games blog.

Feeling I'd been a bit lucky didn't stop me immediately taking the Golden Gobbo picture (don't know who the artist is - do let me know), and cropping it to add a little image to my signature on the forum. Hey, don't judge me! It's the only painting competition I've won!

A big thank you to Geoff for organising and promoting, and offering trophies (!) for this year's GG. I hope Deadcember is as popular and runs as smoothly. I may even switch to forum voting for Deadcember next year as it seemed to work so well.

Wrap up warm, Northern hemisphere readers, it's as cold as the grave out there...

    1. The liche, or the troll? I like both of 'em :)

  2. Well done on the W!

Are modern miniatures valid entries for deadcember?

    1. I don't see why not, and I'd love to see what you come up with - it's a painting challenge, not a "who has the most obscure oop sculpt" challenge. Having said that, my tastes tend towards the oldschool style, and I'm picking the winner...

  3. Congrats Rab - a well deserved win! Regarding Deadcember17 I actually almost finished a Ral Partha Necromancer this morning, although typically I didn't take any 'before' pics. Also I'm not sure if a necromancer counts as '(un)dead'... I do have a Chronicle Mummy and some Citadel Fantasy Tribes Skeletons primed and ready to go, so I may enter them if I can get my self organised.

    1. Necromancers count! And I reckon that, as such a trustworthy chap, if you don't get the mummy or skeletons done then you could enter the necromancer anyway.

  4. Excellent news! Can I post up pics of my entry on my blog and forums in the meantime?
